Just to add, I'm presuming its easier to reach the terminals on the switch and fan motor by removing the heater panel on the dash. I'd rather avoid any DIY on the actual loom itself as I don't rate my soldering etc skills enough.
So my plan is order the £60 part from aepdirect, access the resistor pack by following aahbarnes' excellent photo guide, open the heater panel using Haynes as a guide, unplug the faulty wiring at the switch/fan end and completely replace wiring/resistor with the aepdirect part.
Good plan? £60 and a couple of hours on a Saturday doesn't seem too bad a price to pay.
