As Ralph says, if they are a structural part of the car and they are corroded to an extent that would affect that structure then it would fail. It could also fail if it were a visable part of the sill which was ecessively corroded exposing sharp/unsafe edges!

That's not my expert opinion though, just what I have picked up upon the net! We do have a resident MOT tester as a member so hopefully he'll be able to clear things up for you

I believe, as an afterthought, the above stated member (Lagdti) started a thread for all MOT questions. Have a search for it in the meantime and you may find an answer
