The car will have an immobiliser unless it's been disabled,the key sends a signal through the aerial around the ignition barrel which is recognised by the
and this allows the engine to start.You should have a round red light on the dashboard,this will illuminate when you switch the ignition on and go out once the system is happy,if it starts flashing then there is a problem in the system,if the red light comes on and stays on solid then there could be a wiring problem but as you have changed the key this has to be the prime suspect.All you need to do is swap the key blade from your replacement barrel into your original fob and the car will start as long as you have refitted the aerial properly.
