does it follow that because the "Lambda" reading is too high then the Lambda sensor is faulty and needs replacing ?
It could be caused by a slight exhaust blow somewhere.Also,the sensor could be faulty or it could just do with a bit of thrash.
I'd try the later,if that doesn't work then change the sensor(if there are no exhaust blows...).One thing to bear in mind is that you only get one free retest if you take the car away from the test station,so if your car fails again on emissions,then you'll have to pay for a full retest.
(If the car failed on just the emissions,then you have until the end of the next working day to get it retested....)
