Unfortunately not.The battery only powers the remote central locking signal,not the chip signal.
I think your going to have to bite the bullet and get Renault to diagnose it,as a new key is in the region of £150,and you need to make sure that if you spend that sort of money it's going to cure the problem.There are a few Renault specialists that may have the equipment to diagnose this fault so it might be worth seeing if there is one in your area.(If your near Portsmouth it might be worth contacting Mike at Rentech,he knows his stuff when it come to Renaults,and he offers discounts to forum members)
