The bar is designed to give lateral (side-to-side)rigidity between each side of the rear suspension. Just because it is lightweight doesn't mean it won't have an important job to do.

Similarly my tent is held up by thin nylon ropes and guess what happens if I cut one or more of them - yes the tent goes all floppy and wobbles about and may even fall down.

If the tester was prepared to grant an MOT certificate in this case I shudder to think how many other vehicles he may have passed and their owners believing they are driving vehicles that are safe.

Personally if I was in this situation I would be seeking action from VOSA.

Now I know why drivers over here in Northern Ireland have no faith in mainland UK issued MOT certificates.
