'Get you home mode' or 'Limp mode' is a preset program that the
uses if it detects that there is a fault in the engine mangement system somewhere(although I'm sure it's only certain faults that will do this).It cuts the maximum revs to a limit of around 3,000rpm and uses preset data rather than the information given by the many sensors to allow the car to be driven home in an emergancy.My understanding of the system is that only engine management faults and auto box faults can activate the limp mode.
I'm not sure if your steering lock or ignition faults are linked,but if the management light is coming on then there should be fault codes on the
that can be read.Although these won't actually tell you exactly whats wrong with the car(as some people think!!),it will point you in the right direction.
