Re: Beware the MOT, a story of 4 garages

There's some brilliant stories here

I certainly have done the same type of thing in the past.. get a fail on something you know isn't faulty so go to a different garage and get a pass. I've had some pretty heated exchanges with garages particularly over bushes. They know that rubber can be made to look perished, or at least made to sound like it's perished, very easily so this is one thing I always watch out for. That and steering racks.

They know most people, even competant home mechanics, will not take on a steering rack so it's a cert job. I had a failure on a VW Jetta for this once.. took it to a different garage and got a pass. Drove it for another 4 years without so much as a knock on the wheel.

They say avoid cut price MOT's as they're out to get money of you in other ways.
