The valve at the bottom of the filter is not a bleed valve but a drain valve as diesels tend to gather water in that area. Once replaced the system should bleed itself as long as the primer bulb or primary fuel pump (whichever option is fitted) is operated.
If the engine is idling and driving OK otherwise it sounds like all the air may have been expelled.
A similar thing happened when I cleaned my
valve - the engine seemed to have gone into limp mode but all returned to normal after driving 2-3 miles - it's as if the
needs to relearn its parameters.
