The heat may cook the seals but that does not matter if the purpose of the exercise is to renew the bearing. Fit grease nipples on the new bearing when you are at it. I've done that on my Smart. Have grease nipples on the rear and oil lubed bearings on the front. See below links for details:

Obviously the above applies to a Smart car but may work equally well on a Renault.
