I think your suspicions about the seller being a car dealer may be correct. He seemed to be able to answer your queries rather easily none of which seemed very truthful.
Clio clucth bight points can be quite high normally but the absence of any paperwork for replacement seems quite strange and the silver sprayed alternator does sound suspicious.
Leakage into the spare wheel well would pint to a water leak somewhere in the rear of the vehicle - possibly from the rear light clusters.
The service light illuminated on the dash is probably due to an fuel injection fault or possibly even a
problem. If it was due to the vehicle needing a service this can be easily reset easliy via the dash controls. If that was the case why did he not do so.
Also the lost tax disc would make me suspicous.
You were right to walk away - loads more cars out there to see - good hunting and good luck.
