Re: Vel Satis Problems

Very proud Vel Satis owner from Italy here, absolute nightmare buying a car in Italy, a simple signature is not the case, both the seller and buyer need to take a day off work and ownership change costs at least 500 depending on engine size, Insurance is extortionate, even with my 5 years no claims I have to go under the mother and laws name. Prices of secondhand cars are absolute robbery. A tatty 1993 e200 merc for example could cost you 5,500. There are plenty of thieves around. An dealerships do not negotaite on price whatsoever in this country even with the recession, so I buy privately.
I'm gonna post in the Vel Satis "positive" thread but first
here's a few issues, I'm very lucky as all the electrics work, new tyres and breaks discs are fine. Both keys work (my laguna which wouldn't open the doors, water damage repaired for 40 by key specialist instead of getting ripped off by renault)
Clutch in first gear struggles a bit but I drive like a pensioner so I get 44mpg on the motorway.

I've had a trawl through the forum and there are some excellent contributions I wish I had seen when I had the Laguna II.
Bought it on Thursday, and here are some things the mechanic found on saturday morning, thanks in advance for any advice.

2 x xenon motors
- as lights, motor arms are broken,

1 x radiator,
- radiator and fan work fine but radiator attachment on one side is broken and not attached which means it's moving around.

1 x belt wheel for timing belt
- rim of wheel is coroded

1 x timing belt kit

2 x anti role bars front L & R

2 x front shock absorbers

1 x Catalitic converter
- Not sure if this is correct as my mechanic pointed to the
centre of the exhaust stem running from the front to the back of the car, centre of the car beside the gearbox,
I always thought the catalytic converter was found at the back of the car near the exhaust???

l x support bracket for the exhaust
- right at the rear of the car the large tank attached to the exhaust is not attached and moving on one side.

1 x hazard light switch, as the on off switch is broken, it stays on or off depending whether I attach the wire.

1 x Electric window regulator (rear right), the motor works fine but the wire is broken.
I had the same problem with my Laguna II and I'd like to avoid replacing the whole thing if it's only the
wire inside that's broken.
I've read another Laguna owner replaced his window.
Is it possible to do the same with the Vel Satis by only replacing the wire bought on Ebay for 20 instead of the whole
window regulator mechanism????
