One of the golden rules when working with brakes is only work at one side at a time - leave its opposite undisturbed as it gives you something for comparison.

Nothing stopping you trying the bolts first though - just remember once loosened the the threads will need a new coat of lockite.

Even though the wiring may be present for wear indicators not all models have the facility so I wouldn't be too concerned and no it won't be an MOT failure.
