Re: Using old Engine Oil to protect Nuts / Drum Brake

This is were it gets complicated as you are not dealing with one chemical but a complex combination of many. So to try and calculate a safe exposure level is difficult to say the least. Some of the chemicals are well known carcinogenics (soot for instance) whilst others on their own may be harmless on their own but dangerous when combined during the high tempertures and combustion processes. Experts tend to argue but skin contact should be avoided where possible as soot is well known cause of skin cancer. That's why sending young kids up chimneys is now illegal. And the use of coal was banned in many cities.
Furthermore it also contains chemicals of the benzine and sulphate groups also known causes of cancer if inhaled, ingested or absorbed through the skin.
