Re: Renault Scenic - Fire risk - Door mirror control
Hi burning megane, The forensic guy Steve sounds like the same guy who looked at our Scenic (He's their top guy on the electrics side). VOSA will only do what they always do and let Renault conduct their own investigation first - It is still worthwhile pursuing this. In the meantime if you don't have any wheels, pursue Renault for this as your insurer most likely will have a clause that won't allow you a courtesy vehicle if yours has caught fire (that's what ours said). Renault provided us with a replacement vehicle for the duration of their investigations, so definately worth pursuing.
As for the whole reason behind the burning, my guess is that water has somehow ingressed into the mirror electrics and made a circuit path in one of the connectors or circuit PCB inside. Due to the fact that the circuit is always live, this will remain a risk on all renault vehicles and they are well aware of this. The reason why you don't see the Scenic fault on VOSA's database is because they let Renault UK call it a "Quality Campaign" and not use the official "Recall" wording which is limp to say the least.
Good luck and keep on with this, stating to Renault the risk that you / your family were exposed to by this potentially lethal fault. It's time they got this particular electrical system sorted out.
When they said "Heated Mirrors" ................
