Re: Renault Scenic - Fire risk - Door mirror control
Hi Burning Megane,
Oh dear, that is a real shame for you but the fact there is a non-genuine part in their gives Renault the perfect reason (excuse) for the fire. Our dashboard melted away when the fire started in our car and I thought that was the cause but the fire officer who had a look at it pointed out the source of ignition to me and this was on top of the door card where the mirror switch is located on Scenics.
Madnoel is correct about the fact that the point of failure is not necessarily the location of the fault but the wiring itself doesn't tend to fail unless the wire is physically damaged in some way. The usual point of failure is either a connector plug / crimp / socket or Switch contacts (somewhere where a high resistance electrical connection and subsequent heat can develop).
Sadly we will probably never know the exact cause due to the window regulator get-out clause.
Hope you get the money from the insurers now!
