I had mine do similar, but this was a few months before the recall.

Was stood at a set of traffic lights and when I attempted to move the handbrake didn't release.

I ended up stop / starting the engine and manually releasing the handbrake a couple of times. Eventually it released, but only after I'd waved traffic around.

It was pretty obvious the handbrake wasn't automatically releasing, so I didn't attempt to drive the handbrake off. You can imagine that doing this would have damaged the clutch.
