I'd be interested to see what you'd of done if you were female, didn't know about the release lever and had approx 50 cars blaring their horns continuously at you with nearer drivers expressing their opinions very vocally?
I knew about the release lever but didn't need it as using the manual lever and turning the engine on/off did the trick for me.

I was fortunate in that it wasn't that busy, but if it hadn't released I'd have put the hazards on, got out the car and called my local garage / AA / RAC etc.
