Dunno, but that's just the way it is. Mondeo sized cars and above just seem to depreciate so much more quickly.

Maybe it's explained by the fact that the UK new car market is still largely driven by fleet sales, and these tend to be at least Focus sized and above. Smaller cars tend to be mostly privately bought and owned, and aren't likely to be automatically replaced at around 3 years old.

So there aren't that many of them to pick and choose from on the second hand market, and as a result, they hold their value that much better.

Well that's my theory, at least. Another possibility is that people are just prepared to pay more up front for cheaper motoring (lower fuel costs, insurance, VED etc.)
