Re: Aussie Needs Help - 2003 RENAULT LAGUNA
Sadly the Lag II's don't hold their value that's probably why you are thinking it's good value.
Yes the 2.2 Dci engine does have a poor history for numerous reasons and from what I gather Renualt support in OZ seems to be poor and replacement parts are very expensive and hard to come by. There are many models on the roads both in the UK and Europe so spares are readily available - even from scrapyards. One other point to consider is that Renault use a different protocol for their onboard electronics thus making computer diagnososis only available by either a Renault dealer or a garage that has the appropriate equipment - this is likely to limit your choice of garges willing to do repairs. Unless you have access to appropraite support and repairs you may hit problems which could prove expensive in the future.
We have a few members form overseas (Australia, Soth Africa, etc) and it would appear that in some countries Renault support is abysmal. It would seem that the cost of importing spares which are Renault specific seem to be around double the UK costs. So whilst a cheap car to buy it could prove expensive to maintain.
To be honest in my opinion the Lag is a nice car with loads of bells and whistles but is let down by its electrics.
There is an Australian forum which specialises in French cars so you may get more local information on that site - see link below.
