Does the light on the key work when the button is pressed?.

Could be just flat batteries in the key fob.

If the key does work properly(including sending a signal),then the reciever in the car is faulty.The common cause of this is water damage from a leaking aerial base.The recievers aren't expensive(around £70 from a Renault Dealer).
