Andy-tech - you are not a mechanic or engineer by any chance?

This is absolutely brilliant stuff, exactly the sort of feedback I was after.

I was also in discussions with a mechanic-friend of the family, and he too implied that the talk about the catches had eluded to one fundamental part, the locking mechanism on the car itself.

I really appreciate your comments, as this extremely useful (and educational!) for me and the other drivers. 'Cos in short, there is a lot more careful maintenance required for these older-style Clio bonnet mechanisms which is not explained in any documentation or garage (and is not mandated in any Renault dealer servicing programme!) - and one day will contribute to a fatal accident (if not already!)!!!

Thanks again! I will keep you all posted once I hear from VOSA and Renault UK/Global - probably in Sept....
