Was extremely apprehensive about doing rear brake pads on my 08 Grand Scenic Dci after reading other peoples experiences!
Was quoted £140 from local Renault dealer after car went in for a warranty issue!!!
Bought the pads from wonderful shop in Stoney Stratford MK for £22, Copperslip for £2 & a RH windback tool for £15.90 from Tool Buddy on the internet.
Started today at 9.30, easily finished both by 11.30 which included a coffee break & working very meticulously to thread.
Only issues I would like to highlight is once the pistons are wound back to keep an eye on the piston rubber boot when fitting back over new pads, also when both sides were done, put card in ignition & pressed start & service light & 'Parking Brake Fault came on!!
The brakes could be heard to be winding in so took key back out, took it out of first gear (to stop it moving while jacked up) put key in & everything was back to normal.
Road tested car everthing was A OK!
Perfect instructions on this thread & so glad I decided to do the job myself, could have easily done the job in an hour - but take your time, follow the instructions & save yourself some dosh!
Car had done 55k miles but the front pads are only 65% worn, while the backs were at there limit.
Final note on side light bulbs - had been going through bulbs rapidly for first 2 years so went to Renault dealer who sold me 2 'upgraded' bulbs for approx £16 with the promise of a years warranty of a year if they failed.
After 11 months & a few days one failed went back to garage who said that these bulbs had no warranty
, only the headlight bulbs had been upgraded with an additional warranty but kindly offered to sell me another new one at approx £8! This was 'kindly' turned down & a pair bought from GSF car spares for around £6!
Car has been serviced non-Renault throughout its warranty period only issue was a recent warning light about the injectors came on! Booked it into Renault who said it was a possible blocked fuel filter! This should have been changed at the 36K service, so after contacting the garage who had done the service - they offered to pay the bill from Renaullt to do the filter (£80 for filter + £83 for diagnostics) which they did reduce to £130.:loser:
Every time I have been to the dealer for spares etc have always been made to wait a long time, service is poor & would certainly tend to keep away from them if possible!.....
