Hi Zeb, thanks for the pics.

I would say it looks like some form of cover (possibly protecting a sensor ?).

The car will probably function well enough without it in place, although I'm inclined to believe that nothing on a car is superfluous, and it must have some benefit. It may well be the case that getting underneath the car (either using a ramp, or trolley jack & axle stands) is necessary to trace its origin.

A renault dealer also could tell you from the part number.
