I very much doubt its just happened when you've been driving, i dare like to bet that its been slowly happening and just failed completely as you were driving.
My mate has an R reg mk1 and his HT leads were corroded inside for ages before his car cut out, although he was driving with a misfire.

are at fault atm, Try using known working ones on the car and see if it makes any difference, this at least eliminates one more possible solution without the expense of a garage.
