Sounds like a bad connection on the temperature sensor. That will make the ECU think the engine is cold and it will increase the fuelling and idle speed. Try waggling the connector with someone in the car watching the temp gauge. If not the connection, then I guess it might be the sensor itself. They're not expensive to replace esp from Ebay !
