Thirty odd years ago my mother (smart lady who studied chemistry at the age of 55 years) gave me this tip which is much the same.
Mix a little water into a bowl of biological washing powder - must be biological - (about a small handful) until it's a smooth paste. Spread onto the screen with a soft cloth and leave for around 10 minutes or so. Her reasoning being the enzymes in the powder broke down the
particles which would then flush away.
I have used the same trick to remove
stains from concrete pathways but it does take much longer - around 2-3 days or so.
