Lag 2 Battery Charge Fault

3 weeks ago my 1.9DCi broke down in France with a 'Battery Charge' caption on the dash. On inspection it was the crank pulley that wasn't rotating due to the bolt not being secure, probably not tightened by the garage who did the last cambelt change and the belt had stopped, hence the caption on the dash.
Anyway, the car came back yesterday on a truck and I have replaced the damaged pulley. All OK.
Drove to work today and heh presto 'Battery Charge' fault after 15miles. Was intermittent initially and now the caption is on all the time and the voltage across the battery is only 12v, so its not charging.
Does anyone have any knowledge of the Lag Alternator, is it ECU controlled? Would a ECU reset help seeing its the same fault as previously seen,. The pulley seems to have a slipping clutch type pulley, never seen one of these before, could it be that thats slipping continually?
Any ideas?
