£2500 wouldn't look near the cost of replacing the engine. Double that figure and you may be nearer the true cost. Last figure I heard of was £6000 and rising in one scenario.
This particular model is difficult to work on and even minor engine repairs can be expensive due to the high labour costs.
Many independent garages won't touch them with a barge-pole.
Don't get me wrong I think they are a nice motor but are let down by Renaults relibility and exhorbitant repair costs.
