Please don't do what my missus suggested when I said that my breaks had been squeaking...............

"Can't you just put some oil on them?"

In reply to your question, you can check the discs for uneven wear or take the pads off and give them a rub over flat sandpaper to take off any residue they may have picked up.

If you've only had the car for a week it may have been on a forecourt for a while so the copper brake grease may not be there so you'd have to take the pads off to check and put some more on.

Failing that, get new ones fitted all around. That should cure it
