I think you ought to ask for your 88 quid back!.
It wasn't rock science that the Lambda sensor was faulty,I'm shocked that Renault told you the cat was bu=gered........It doesn't do anything to enhance their reputation.....
A cat can be faulty and the car can still have perfect Lambda readings,the CO and HC readings will be higher,but thats it.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
