Hi there, I used to regularly tow a twin axle trailer (not the same as a caravan, I know). I would check the handbook regarding this, as it is recommended not to tow more than 85% of the var's weight. You also have to add the various odds & ends which will be added to the caravan (gas, food, etc), which will increase the weight to what is called Mass In Running Order. A quick glance at a caravanning magazine in WH Smith's will probably list this. It is very important not to overload the car (or to poorly distribute the weight), as the stability can be adversely affected, as can components (such as the auto gearbox) be over stressed.
