99' Laguna I central locking problem

I've got a 99 Laguna that refuses to lock and unlock with the remote fob. It's the radio version and I've done a little searching with no joy.

I had some water leaking through the aerial during the recent bad weather and have now sealed it up, however the water was pouring onto the remote reciever. Now it doesn't work at all, unless I unplug it for a couple of minutes and then plug it back in, then it will work for a couple of goes, but nothing after that.

It's really frustrating as the key only unlocks the drivers door (Is there a way to modify this?)

So my basic question is:

1) Is this a common problem with a simple remedy?
2) Can I get a new reciever from a Scrap yard and switch the crystals over, that is if it uses crystals, or is the frequency chip-encoded?

Thanks in advance,
