You need to push the pedal down,then pull the plunger out on the switch (it's got a ratchet adjustment mechanism inside it),then release the pedal and you will hear the switch click into place.This will cure the problem,if it returns soon after then the switch is fubar'd and will need replacement,but 9 times out of 10 the problem is caused by a clutch master cylinder being replaced and the switch not being reset afterwards and once reset all is well.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
