Angry Where does the fuel filler overflow hole lead to on a Megane II?

Hi all,

There's a little hole in the bottom of the fuel filler area which is (presumably) for catching any fuel dripped from the fuel nozzle.

I wondered whereabouts this hole lead to? Does it go into the petrol tank or outside?

I just wondered because there's this noise coming from around that area that is DOING MY HEAD IN and really is ruining the comfort of driving this car.

It only happens when wind blows around the right hand side of the car and I can't work out where it's coming from. The only thing different from the opposite side of the car is the fuel filler cap.

It must be common on the Sport Tourers or something - the exact same noise was present on my last Megane Sport Tourer but not as loud.

Does anyone have any other ideas about where this loud, resonating humming noise may be coming from?

I'm going to strip down the roof bars and roof panels and clean up / refit to see if it solves it. I'm also thinking of applying some sort of self-adhesive foam strip / seal to the fuel filler cap to stop any wind getting in.

ANY advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
