Have had the same problem for ages, would take it all apart, seal it, put it back together, and it would work, until heavy rain. Anyway, finally have a permanant solution, the reason for this is water, but not as much ingress as soaking!
Above the two electic boot switches is a drainage channel which leads to a transparant plastic tube, when the bootlid slams this comes loose, and away from the drainage tube and therfore soaks the switches!
Simply reattatch the tube, and secure if possible with a clip, and hey presto, has worked ever since, even in a downpour!
