Hello and welcome to the forum.

I have added your post to another thread on the same subject,if you read back through you should pick up on a few hints.
As said,dephaser pulleys are a pretty common fault,once the engine is warm allow it idle and if you here a rattling noise from the top of the engine then the pulley is almost certaintly fubar'd.They can happily rattle for a long time,but they can be expensive to replace as the cambelt needs to be done at the same time,the pulley,belt kit,auxillary belt plus labour is getting on for £500 at an independant garage.
Hopefully others will offer their thoughts too.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
