I personally would not own a 1.9DCI or a 2.2DCI due to their known problems.
If you can afford it go for the 2.0DCI, far less troublesome. This means you will be looking at the Laguna II phase II (2005>).

Just be aware that Renault build quality takes some getting used to!
Totally agree with above having had both a 1.9 and 2.0 dci's. If you can stretch your budget to get a phase 11, it would be well worth it. My laguna has done 134000 now and is still going well, and you should be able to pick up a high miler (with s/history!) for about 3k
Currently in simonmlaguna's garage:
2008 Laguna Initiale 2.0 dci 150 Auto, lots of broken things that should be at the tip!
