I just had a quick look at ours, and I can see the space for the chip, but there's no lid and no chip. I'm betting that the RFID chip is a cost option and our lot were too tight to bother having them fitted.

I'm not sure why you'd want to track wheeliebins, apart from the possibility of theft. Still, since they shoved us onto this recycling scheme and started emptying our bin once a fortnight (nappies smell sooooo sweet after a fortnight in summer heat) I've considered dragging the bin through into the next street for their Friday collection as well as our Monday one. At least they can't track me by chip if I do
