Plip key

The key on my R reg diesel scenic lights up when pressed but dosn't work the central locking and immobiliser, it worked fine until yesterday . is it possible that it gone out of tune? i've checked behind the interior light pod and there is no sign of any water, the key is sending a signal as it was checked by the AA man with his testing gizmo , the problem being that I bought the car and got only one key, although I can unlock the doors manually can't start it because of the immobiliser.

Is it possible to get rid of the plip system completly as this might be an ideal time before I start spending on new parts to make it work, as I'd rather go down that route then I can fit an aftermarket total closure alarm and have only one key to press. I'm pretty sure I saw on here somebody that reprograms the ecu so as you don't need the plip, but I probably just dreamt it as this plip has been niggling away at the back my mind for some time and now it desn't want to work.

Help needed quickly as I mentioned earlier the car won't start. Thank you.
