Ok, so I bit the bullet and paid a visit to my local Renault dealer (Sewards).
Presented my driving licence, passport & V5, paid £15 and now have the four digit immobiliser code. Whilst there I checked the prices of the immobiliser components and was pleasantly surprised! The transponder receiving ring that goes round the ignition barrel is only £35 and the immobiliser control unit is just under £100. The ring is generic, but the control unit needs coding.
But as I have the 4 digit code number now, and it only takes 30 mins for the dealer to put it in, this shouldn't cost too much! And I can fit it myself - I'd just want the dealer to supply the control unit with the correct code loaded!
Funny how when you break the problem down into components and cost them individually, how much cheaper it is than taking it to Renault and saying "please look at my immobiliser!
Just waiting for the immobiliser to go wrong again, so I can try the 4 digit code!!!
I'll keep peeps informed, as hopefully this info may be of use to others.
