If left the belt can break due to the vibration,as can the tensioner.There have been cases of the alternator pulleys disintergrating too.
Worst case scenario is something breaks on the auxillary belt and then the belt goes into the cambelt cover and throws the timing out and then it's a very expensive engine repair.
Best to get it sorted asap.
