As far as I know, none of them are actually glued - they're just a very tight hammered on fit. In theory, you can hammer them off again with a few sharp blows from underneath, though there's apparently a risk of damaging the gear linkage which is why the hacksaw method is preferred.
I'm not sure what's under there, but I'd be very surprised if it was a screw thread. I'd expect that a decent gear knob supplier would have a vehicle compatibility list. Why not just change it for a new Renault one? I looked into it for the Clio and they weren't that expensive.
If you do go for an alternative one, don't forget that you'll need one with the lift collar for reverse.
