Re: VOSA Matters Of Testing 06/11

On a lighter note:

"Reasons for Rejection regarding the opening of doors does not apply to:
***61623; passenger doors if the door aperture has been permanently ***8216;filled***8217; as part of a specialised customisation provvided that there are no obvious aperture gaps."
So my idea of welding up the back doors is fine! lol

Looks like I've got a lot of work to do pre-MOT - first and foremost is getting the back door to open from the outside, then I've got to have adjustment on the drivers' seat (ridiculous since I'm the only person who ever drives it, and even so it has an adjustable steering column - and how supercars with non-adjustable moulded seats and adjustable steering columns can pass, I don't know...) at least I don't have any MILs on!

Hmm, I think my next car is going to be something very old (certainly pre-1992 to avoid the cat headache), a) for simplicity - if it's got fuel and a spark, it ought to go, and b) because so many things can go wrong with modern cars that will cause them to fail the MOT which are incredibly difficult to fix without a main dealer doing it. These new regs seem like they're going to create a lot of work for the repair industry... I'm not at all suspicious that they might not only have the public's safety at heart

Incidentally another reason for failure in that document is "A silencer in such condition, or of such a type, that the noise emitted from the vehicle is clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar vehicle with a standard silencer in average condition" - is this new? I know there was a regulation as to the precise maximum noise levels permitted for different classes, but this gives me the impression it allows MOT testers to fail boy racers for their stupid fart cans!
