I wouldn't have even recognised the sound of the bearings going! But to get no warning at all WOOH! - someone 'up there' loves you!
Gives me chills just thinking about it.

Similar thing has happened to my hubby - once in his lorry, the propshaft came adrift, fortunately the rear axle end or he would have been catapulted up in the air!
And on his long since sold Vauxhall Frontera ... the rear wheel nuts sheered off a back wheel while on the motorway, but he (like you Vel) recognised something was wrong and was in the process of pulling onto the hardshoulder as it happened ..... he had to walk back to pick up his wheel - definitely a Laurel & Hardy moment.
And the amount of tire blowouts he's had with various lorries over the years scares me to death - but as he likes to tell me (sooo often lol) he's a professional. Nothing fazes him,
which is why I make him drive whenever we go out anywhere!
