Two events spring to mind - both involve Fords. The first being when the front wheel bearing started to collapse - the only indication being a sudden pull of the steering throwing me into the oncoming lane. The bearing had caused damage to the hub and strut in the rapid collapse.
The other event was driving home throught the wilds one night when the main beam failed, I quickly switched to dipped beam which also failed after a further 5 seconds or so. Thankfully I had fitted front fog lights so was able to get my vision back fairly quickly. The cause? the indicator stalk/dip switch had failed and melted.
