Re: What's the scariest car failure you've had while driving?

Hi, first post here, two incidents spring to mind, both in an Escort.

First one was the wishbone coming away from the hub carrier at 40mph, left side of the car dropped on a bend almost making me hit the cop car that was passing me and a very loud grinding noise. Managed to limp it into a car park and fortunatly I had plenty of tools in the car.

Got it Jacked up and took the wheel off to find that the pinch bolt was completly missing. I found a bolt that would fit in my toolbox and got it all put back together.

Second incident was a blowout on the front n/s in the middle lane of the M62, the car behind spotted what was happening and straddled both lanes and slowed down, making it much easier and safer for me to get to the hard sholder. I got rid of that car half an hour later as we were on our way to collect the new car.
