Sounds like the clutch might be slipping.
Which could be wear, or might just be the moving gearbox causing the cable to be pulled and releasing the clutch.

Or does the noise level increase? If the vibration does increase, then the gearbox may be in contact with the bodywork, so that the vibration goes direct.

Need more info, please, about this "over-revving"
I can be tootling along at say 30-40mph and then put my toe down to accelerate more and the car picks up slightly but the revs shoot up too - almost like it's not in gear. No extra vibrations or anything, just "over revving" though as I say, the car does pull slightly. And as I said previously, I obviously take me foot off the accelerator and on again and this generally sorts it out. The mechanic at work said it was the gearbox mount that needed replacing having had a look at it. But I don't know where it's located or how big of a job it is.
