Re: Difference between a Scenic and Grand Scenic tailgate
I've swapped a door before, but not a tailgate - will try to help out as much as I can, in any case.
I don't believe there is any difference - the car's are the same width & height - just their respective lengths which differ.
I wouldn't disconnect the battery - as its all fed by multiplugs which you'll be disconnecting to swap the tailgates over, and these are only earthed when the tailgate is closed - which it won't be whilst you are swapping them.
I can't see how the alarm would be affected - all its looking for is circuit continuity.
This is at least a 2-person job (3 people would be better yet - especially if its windy). I'm not sure how the hinges are attached & accessible on the tailgate itself, but I would try to seperate the hinge from the tailgate, rather than the hinge from the car roof, as it will make lining-up much easier, to ensure a good fit.
Naturally, seperate the gas struts from the tailgate, as you know they work properly, and attach to the new tailgate.
Multiplug connected-up at the last stage, then trial close (you need an electrical feed to re-open the door, or the micro-switch won't work).
This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
