I'm fairly sure that the alarm will work off the switches in the door which detect if they are open (perimetric), plus the ultrasonic beams which get fired around in the cabin (volumetric), in addition to a basic motion sensor - the doors will require power, but the central locking module isn't being changed, so it all should work.
An analogy would be the difference in changing a headlamp bulb, and the daylight sensor for the automatic function - one controls the process, the other follows it.
H&S rules (and basic lack of common sense in their application) are real problems these days in the completion of the most rudimentary of tasks. In an age where a company can be sued for selling coffee which is hot - I can't say I blame them.
Take pictures as you go, and update us - I for one, find these tasks very interesting.
